Pretty Lights at Red Rocks 2011

So back on Saturday, August 13th, I attended the Pretty Lights concert at Red Rocks Amphitheater, located 30 minutes outside the city of Denver, Colorado. Pretty epic my friends – I can honestly say that nothing will top that concert this year, and that’s saying something. PL featured Big K.R.I.T., Skream, Gramatik, and Michal Menert as his preview headliners to his show.
The evening began with pregamming on the side of the mountains of red rocks leading up to the steps of the amphitheater, reaching an elevation of above 7,000 feet. The show sold out to 10,000 people weeks before the actual even, definitely deeming it the event of the summer.
With a full moon, meteor shower, and full-fledged view of the city lights of Denver, Pretty Lights delivered his hardest set yet with the release of 6 new singles on his setlist, not to mention an epic light show that could be seen from miles away from the venue. At every seat at Red Rocks, every audience member could view PL’s show at a perfect view thanks to the nearly-perfect design of the venue. WIth that, there was also the mountains surrounding the stage that set-off the echos of the show as well. Amazing.
People went ape-shit to get to this event, they even had people camping out in the mountains behind Red Rocks, seen thanks to the igniting of their lighters every now and then. Many people even climbed the massive rocks that surrounded both sides of the stage to get a good view – an extremely dangerous climb to pull-off, not to mention, a $10,000 fine and some big jail time for anyone caught. A month earlier, a kid had died falling off that rock… that night I saw at least 4 people up there. Would I ever risk that to see Pretty Lights? Nope. That’s why I paid $120 for this show… and absolutely worth it!
… Okay so that was back in August, wayyy wayy long ago… I neglected to post this earlier, but on that note, here’s some new PL jams that everyone needs to have:

What do you expect from someone who’s bio reads “One time i was conceived at a Garth Brooks Concert in Ohio and then I made some techno music”? Tomorrow we will be heading down to San Antonio for Lifted Wednesdays over at The Ivy (which boasts a killer rooftop bar btw). We’re gonna snag an interview with him tomorrow night so expect a follow post here in a couple days. Check out some of his mixes below. This kid is about to blow up.

Das Kapital

I posted a song a while back featuring Das Kapital’s new remix of Bon Iver’s “Skinny Love”. Now he’s blowing up all my new fav playlists. I didn’t get to rep this up and coming new collective in the electro scene before, so here we go: DK aka Kyle Brinkmann is from Cape Town, South Africa, reppin’ the beach and booze appeal we love most on TiPsYLiGHTs. He recently cut a deal with Hype Machine, and he’s made quite the hit with his Bon Iver remix. His music isn’t a combination of one particular genre, which is great, because his music is like nothing I’ve heard before – thanks to his thoughtful collective process of combining percussion, melody, bass, tribe-like rhythms, and sick one-of-a-kind mashups still keeping within perspective of dubstep and electro-house music.
So to introduce more of his music, I have three new favorites. Listen and live it.
